2015 > Manda-lala

This piece is a reflection on the meditative processes of wheel throwing, woodworking, and my artistic practice. My primary influence was Tibetan mandalas; I used stoneware rather than sand, servos and dings rather than an om, and will bury the bell vessels rather than sweeping sand and pouring into flowing water to relate to this ritual. The idea being that my sculpture is my ritual, and in doing so makes the artistic space a sacred place. The wooden structure’s function is to suspend the stoneware bell vessels so that they can be struck by a servo and create dings in the space the piece is displayed in.
